Construction of new bridge at Hoover Dam

Construction of new bridge at Hoover Dam

Just outside Las Vegas sits the Hoover Dam…..... This was an amazing site just north of Hoover Dam. I cannot imagine working this high in the air. Although you cannot see it from this shot, they are hundreds of feet above Lake Mead here. Note the port a potty placed on the platform on the new bridge. High on the far side hanging off the wired are the cable cars. We were told by one of the workers that the cars transport the workers from one side to the other and before the arch was joined, they lowered the men from these cars to work on the structure. This job is not for the timid!!!

Love the incredible details you have captured here Sue…very well taken!!!
Don’t tell anyone…but I suspect from looking at this that what they are REALLY building here is the world’s LARGEST Roller Coaster ride!!!

  • Memaa replied 18 days ago

LMAO, roller coaster ride…....hee hee hee….....you may be right! I was so happy with the details here. So much to see….so much going on. Thanks, Ken, for your support and great comments. :)))

Building bridges is always fascinating to me. I could just sit and watch them work all day. If I had chosen a different career path, perhaps I could have been one of those workers….lol. But I think Ken might be right. It does look like they are building a roller coaster. (I laughted outloud for real when I read that!!)
    Excellent shot Sue!!

  • Memaa replied 18 days ago

Thanks so much, Theresa for the favorite and your wonderful comments. I could sit right with you and watch them build this fantastic structure. My husband and son have worked “high” as electricians on new construction. My husband would have loved to work here….......somewhere there is electricians putting in the wiring for the lights! It is a good thing Bob is retired. LOL Thanks so much, it is great to hear from you. :)))) I miss you as a regular here.

This is fantastic.I watched a special on national geographric television
about how dangerous this project has been and some of the problems
they have encountered because of it.The men are so bold. They put their
lives on the line every day for this project.I think it’s great to have men
such as this. YES! MMMMMMMMMMMMMMWA! :)

  • Memaa replied 18 days ago

Thanks for your wonderful comment. I will have to watch for a re-run of that N.G. show. Yes, it takes a special breed of men to work like this. I know the American Indians are famous for working “high”. I wonder if there are some here? I appreciate your encouragement, Michael. Thanks Sue

OMG…how much cement is going in there!!! LOL..Amazing construction alright Sue…definately not for this ‘ground’ person!! *-)

  • Memaa replied 18 days ago

LOL, I could not even guess how much cement they will use here. it is fantastic how man has figured these things out. I think sometimes that if everyone was like me, we would be back in the dark ages. LOL Thanks so much, Deb. :))

What a capture this is! But I imagine they are paid very well, for this! To take risks like this…. you would have to have “some” incentive!! YIKES!

  • Memaa replied 11 days ago

So glad you like this one. It was fasinating to see the construction in progress. Yes, it must be a very scary job. On both the dam and this new bridge lots of human lives have been lost. It kind of makes you wonder why those workers do it at all? Have lost your email address. Please resend :)))
