FEATURED in The X Factor – July 8th, 2011

Created using a HP ScanJet G2410 Flatbed Scanner

I really enjoy working with dying flowers. They bring a wealth of textures, folds and colours which can add a totally new depth to a photograph. I felt that this could also be enhanced with a scanner.

The light from the scanner worked quite well with these roses; highlighting the papery petals like old sheets of parchment.

After trying various different arrangements with these roses I decided I quite like the playful approach. I felt that the taller rose looked like a mother looking down at her child.

Very pretty against the black background. The little one looks like a light bulb. A fave.

Beautiful composition and working with dying flowers and a scanner I think, is the perfect combination; it’s certainly a different perspective on shooting flowers!

  • You’re right, the scanner light shows up all of the veins and crinkles perfectly. It’s so much fun playing around with this type of thing, I’d highly recommend it! :o)
