Colour Code
Lately I’ve been struck by how everyone seems to expect you to do things a certain way if your skin is a particular colour- What an ignorant mindset.
And I stay in Africa, what a joke. My mother is White, my father is black. I’ve lost more than one friend because of my mixed origin- my family is mixed, therefore the home is a broken one, and I’m a bad influence. It’s not me these people have to worry about. But what can I do? I’ve decided to stop acting like I’m sorry I was born the way I am- i wish I’d decided to do so sooner.
Colour Code belongs to the following groups:

I’m the strange girl
Half black
Half white
And I bite
I need to protect myself
From their stares
No-one cares
If I feel ostracized
Criticized
I’ve realized
They can’t place me
That’s why I’m a nigger
A sinner
A beginner
Never a winner
HA!
I’ll never be thinner
That’s right
I BITE
And I might
pick a fight
If I hear
That name
Spit at me again.
I am not a nigger.
Take back
Your fucking label.
I am my own person
And this is
The 21st century;
Colour doesn’t define
Intelligence
Kindness
Weakness
Strength
Talent.
They, the authors of
THE COLOUR CODE,
Make it so
Because they don’t know
The first thing
About the world
Outside their doors-
Ignorance is fucking bliss.
If they opened their eyes
They might just
Get hit in the face
By my power,
Emanating from every pore
I’ll knock them to the floor
Rip up the Code of Colour,
The Colour Code,
The oppressive gauze
But the thing is,
They’ll make another.

Judgement from others says nothing about who you are…the ignorance of society and the hurtful things that people do show only a lack of acceptance. Be who you are, and be proud that you can accomplish as much in life as you choose to. The color of your skin has nothing to do with the soul you have inside…an expressive writing!

Be proud of who you are and life that sprung first from the motherland. We cannot please everyone so just define yourself, many know the truth you seek and worrying is for the meek.
