“fears about yourself prevent you from doing your best work,
fears about your reception by others
prevent you from doing your own work”
(A quote from the book Art & Fear by David Bayles and Ted Orland)
absolutely brilliant book…
This artist journey is so susceptible to fears.
I fear that I’ll never be good enough, never amount to much, never truly be able to express what I really want to say…
I have to remember that this is an ordinary job.
Failure is essential in this journey… not every canvas is going to be a masterpiece…
But, this is also a high calling. It is a gifting.
I have to remember that uncertainty is a virtue.
The risks are worth it.

This is so true mel. I want to thank you – I’ve only had the privelege of watching you for a couple of days and I have already learned lots from you. You are not only a beautiful artist, but an inspiring person as well.

the best way to work ,is to imagine no-one will ever see your artwork ,then you have no exspection from someone elses reaction .So you are creating for no-one but yourself ,which is the most important thing to do.

I totally agree… unfortunately that is a very difficult place to get to… to imagine that no-one will ever see your artwork makes for a pretty lonely existance… it’s a fine balance don’t you think… but I do try to do this as much as i can, because that is the freedom I thought I had finally discovered… to do my art in my time, in my studio for me!

You have the right attitude “to do my art in my time, in my studio for me!”. I share the exact same philosophy.
