Everyone knows what that orange triangle on the back of a slow moving vehicle means! There’s no doubt that anyone who has driven through the lovely rolling hills in Amish Country has found themselves suddenly following behind a buggy like this. Please use caution, slow down & enjoy the the quiet, peaceful way of the Amish.

My husband & I had the pleasure of visiting Homes County a few days ago here in Ohio….better known as Amish Country. A leisurely drive through the country is a great stress reliever as it brings us to a way of life that moves at the speed of a clippity-clop.

This is nice I think we were probably all better off when the world moved slower, at an animals’
pace. Also, I know the Amish don’t like their pictures taken, but this is different.

  • Thanks for your comment, Marriet. Regarding photos, there’s usually not a problem if a photo is taken from a distance & their facial features don’t really show. There’s also different sects of Amish ranging from the Old Order Amish to the more liberal Mennonites & some of them really don’t mind so much. The painting I did before this one called “Lydia” was of an Amish lady working on a quilt in one of the shops we visited….I asked her permission to take a photo & it was granted….she later said that she appreciated my asking rather than just taking a photo anyway. Mostly, it just boils down to respect.

Such a familiar scene in our Kitchener/ Waterloo area, Marsha. Beautifully captured with your paints and brush. Lovely clean colour and composition.

  • Thank you so very much, Bev. Hey, I didn’t realize there were Amish in Canada. Is it a very large settlement?
