Lydia works at a quilt shop in Berlin, OH….better known as Holmes County or Amish Country. She gave me permission to take her picture in order to have as a reference for a painting. The day I met her, she was wearing a green dress & was finishing up the binding around one of the handmade qults in the shop. As we were pointing out a specific quilt we really liked made of deep , rich shades of purple, she said that purple was also her favorite color. So, using artistic license, I took the liberty of changing her dress for the painting.

Lydia, the seller of purple….My daughter Lydia’s favorite color, too. I love the colors you used in this!

  • Maybe there’s something about the name Lydia & purple (other than the seller of!)….our granddaughter, Lydia, likes purple, too. Glad you like the colors. I looked through some of your work & noticed your combinations of purple & gold. I felt if it worked for you, I couldn’t go wrong. :) Thanks, Lora.

Beautifully rendered figure, Marsha. The purple dress was a lovely idea and one I am sure Lydia would approve. Wonderful folds in the fabric and great skin tones.

  • Thank you for your kind words, Bev…..much appreciated. Lydia should receive the painting sometime today, so here’s hoping she’ll like it.

Nice as the purple even looks more Amish looking. I’ve visited several different communities of Amish. The very popular Pennsylvania Amish, a group in Alabama we stop and buy diary products from and then a group in Mississippi that we get fresh veggies from. Each just a little different than the next.

  • Thanks, Jim….they make such interesting subjects to paint……I guess mostly because of their style of dress. I didn’t realize there were pockets of Amish in the deep South….interesting.
