This is my fifth attempt at using “Eyelash” yarn and salt to produce a very interesting texture that would work great for backgrounds in certain paintings. VIEW LARGER for best results.
Process…
Arrange yarn on watercolor paper, wet the paper and yarn (I used a spray bottle), drop in color, add more water if necessary to keep everything wet, then sprinkle with salt…as much or little as you like. Allow to dry thoroughly before removing yarn and salt. Have fun experimenting!
Winsor Newton paint on Arches 140# coldpress, eyelash yarn, salt….also slight amount of white acrylic spatter from toothbrush.

Thank you for viewing my work. I consider each visitor a very important part of my creative journey.

Great, I’d like to see what you come up with. It’s a given that with every try, something new & different will emerge.

Wow! That is a very interesting texture you’ve managed! Great job.
When it got very cold last winter I experimented with staining washes left out in the frost. Each pattern was different depending on the pigments used and how quickly the freeze occurred.
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I’ve tried the freezing method before but it’s been ages. The patterns as a result, can be so beautiful. This past winter around here didn’t even get cold enough to try it.

It’s so funny….I did a watercolor demo at a street festival last night & I took this painting along for people to see & they were more interested in it than in my normal paintings! LOL!
