Just playing around again. Thanks to another RB artist, I found that using a combination of salt & “eyelash” yarn, one can achieve some pretty neat effects….especially good for backgrounds. Maybe those of you who like to play with textures & effects would like to give this a try. I need to keep practicing this to really get it to look like I want it to……maybe even try it with no salt at all.

P.S. The paint needs to be very wet & runny.

Winsor Newton paint on Arches 140# coldpress.

Looks like fun – I wonder how eyelash yarn would look like if you did this on Yupo…

  • I haven’t tried it yet.

Very interesting effect Marsha, like ferns. Try it in bright green!!

  • I tried it as you said & it didn’t do anything. I still haven’t discovered that magic combination of paint/water/salt/ yarn. ugh!

What fun Marsha, lovely colors and textures! What is “eyelash” yarn?

  • It’s a yarn called “Eyelash” yarn…..it has real long loose strands. If you “Google” it, you can see what it looks like.

What great effects Marsha! This looks fantastic!!!!

  • Thanks, Lynda….unless I can fine tune it & get it to work like I want it to, I doubt that I’d try using it on an actual painting.

I like both of the abstracts. I’m going to try it. Exactly what is eyelash yarn?

  • Thanks, Pauline. It’s a yarn called “Eyelash” yarn & is available at JoAnn Fabrics & probably some other places.
