Wash Day Blues by Marsha Elliott

Ahhh, the good ol’ days….or were they? I used a wringer washer when my first son was born & the first lesson I learned was NEVER send a pair of plastic pants (remember those ladies….pre Huggies & Pampers!) through the wringer as water was trapped in them, they blew up like a balloon & popped!!!

This is an instant fav and such a wonderful work Marsha; the colors and shadows are striking. Would you believe I still have an operating ringer washing machine made in Ripon, WI that I use at our vacation home. I just can’t part with it and the wonderful memories it brings back of my mom and grandmother.

  • Thanks so much, Diane. I actually enjoyed the old wringer washers, but I was really happy when automatic clothes dryers came out. I remember my Mom hanging clothes on the line in below freezing temps, then would take the jeans down when almost dry & stood them beside the old pot belly stove to thaw out. Wow, the memories like you said.

yes, i remember the rubber pants! lucky for me my uncle was there and he popped it open! went right up past my elbow! just put up a new clothesline last year, hadn’t had one for a couple of years! soon as it warms up it will get some use again! ;O))) have a good one marsha!

  • Thanks again, Linda. One needs to be careful with these old relics. Glad you were OK. I remember hearing of women getting their hair caught up in the wringers….OUCH!

HALIRIOUS!!! I loved to play w/ my Grandma’s…but I do remember putting things through the wringer that weren’t supposed to go thru…or got things caught (hummmhummm). There was always the joke about Grandma got her - caught in the wringer! We’d laugh and laugh!!!
