This was painted at a workshop I just took under the direction of Donna Pierce Clark

It was my first attempt at using 100% transparent, staining paints from Stephen Quiller on Arches 140# coldpress.

And that transparency is beautiful Marsha! I have difficulty finding transparent watercolours here in South Africa, must actually do a web search… great work!

  • Thank you Maree. Because it was just an experiment, I didn’t know whether to go ahead & post it or not. Check out http://www.quillergallery.com/art_supplies/sq_w... – don’t know if he ships overseas or not.

Thanks for the link Marsha, will look into it!

  • Good luck. I think you’d really like the paints if you can get your hands on some – very concentrated, pure pigment, no fillers.

Stunning gorgeous glow to this work, Marsha. Beautiful!

  • Thank you, Fran. It does glow, doesn’t it? I’m tossing around the idea of trying to paint the photo of the Russian grape vines that I sent you. These paints would lend themselves well in allowing the light to pass through. I just don’t know if I can pull it off.

What a fun workshop that must have been! I love the intense colors.

  • Yes, it was fun, but very tiring by the end of a long day. I generally don’t work with colors this intense, but it’s fun to do once in awhile. Gotta get out of the rut!
