Nice criss cross of the birch trunks, Marsha.

And that impressive background of the fiery autumnal leaves!
There’s only hint of decaying golden leaves, here in the north of England. October and November sees more of them.

  • Thanks a bunch, Colin! There’s only a hint of changing color here where I live right now, but by mid to late October we’ll be at peak season when it becomes a “leaf peeper’s” delight.

Wonderful piece, great technique! How you saved the whites here? Incredible work.

  • Thank you, Kostas. After I sketched in where I wanted the Birch trees, I used an old brush to lay in masking fluid in order to preserve the whites. After the masking dried, I then flooded on color (wet into wet), allowed that to dry, then used a sponge to dabble in alot more color. When the whole thing was dry once again, I removed the masking, & then added the detail & shadows on the birch trunks. Now all the mystery is gone….ha!

Great image Marsha and something a bit different for you. I like the autumn too, but not what comes after.

  • Glad you like it. Yes, I’m into “different” lately. It’s good to pull out of the rut once in awhile & surprise ourselves & everyone else while we’re at it. Like you, I’m not a winter person by any means unless I’m inside the house & watching a blizzard through the big window as it’s so mesmerizing.
