A superb portrait with lots of expression. I especiallly like the shadow and light effect.
Marsha Elliott replied
Thank you, Colin, for your wonderful comments. I’ve been trying to do alot more figure painting – sort of a self inflicted torture in a sense as I struggle with them so.

Well worth the struggle Marsha..a really beautiful portrait !!!!
Marsha Elliott replied
Thank you, Katy. It’s so easy to overwork a watercolor resulting in muddy colors – therein lies one of the struggles. The other struggle is trying to capture the spirit of the person (or animal) being painted.

Marsha, I think you’re handling the darker flesh tones beautifully. I also like the different fabrics and the way you’re painting them as well. Very nice piece with of course a very special message attached.

Marsha, your latest works on these portraits is outstanding, and I hope you have many sales from them to help the mission.
Darker flesh tones are not easy in watercolour and you have managed to paint them beautifully….
Marsha Elliott replied
Thank you very much – quite a compliment from one who does watercolor portraiture so beautifully. I use alot of alizerin red, , yellow ochre, burnt sienna & some burnt umber to get these dark tones. Sometimes a little cobalt blue is thrown in. It’s all been trial & error. To be quite honest, these darker tones for me have been much easier than the light skin tones. The lighter ones either turn out too pink or too orangey.
