Street kids playing 'skippy' with disused iron bar, Democratic Republic of Congo
These kids are unreal. look at them! They have found a disused iron bar in amongst the lava chunks in Goma, Congo – and they have fashioned into a ‘skipping rope.’ Look at the joy on their faces. Especially the little bloke on the left. Even the girl in the wheelchair is smiling. This is the kind of happiness that takes your breath away. I shot a few of the same scene. They loved it and couldn’t wait to see themselves in the screen on my digital camera. Buy this in any form and the profits go to the Hospital they were playing at.

Melinda, as usual, a fantastic shot. Kids being kids – beautiful! You must have some stories to tell.

Hi Melinda, I just finished looking through your portfolio and you have capture some amazing images. Of all these this is the one that stuck.
For me it just shows the innocence of children, even though they live in such sad situations they can still be children. They will always find ways to have some sort of fun.
This should be a lesson to children living the good life here. Stop saying “I want”, turn off the Playstation/Xbox/computer and have a look at the world outside. Read a book, a non-fiction book.
Now I’m ranting way off topic.
Love your work keep it up, the world needs to be shown what is really going on.
Cheers.

Hi melinda
This is a really joyfilled photo.
Thanks for the kind comments you made on some of my pics. I really appreciate them. I suppose I don’t really consider myself to be a photographer or anything. I just take pictures for fun, and if some of the guys with “mean” cameras and things knew what i use to take my shots they would laugh…...
