'Shoe Woman', Democratic Republic of Congo
This woman sells shoes. She displays her wares on her head and in this instance she had stopped to talk with another ‘shoe woman.’ I loved the way she responded to my delighted laugh by having a genuine chuckle back. You don’t always see nice things in Congo. It makes the magic even more precious.

Colorful clothing over those parts. Interesting how she promotes her products on her head like that. Lucky she doesn’t sell Volkswagons.

Hahaha! I love how african women carry everything on thier head even if they have hands free to use. I’ve got a shot very simalar. I find it hilarious. My girlfriend is from zimbabwae and she thinks it’s normal and wonders why I laugh. It’s cleaver though, don’t get me wrong. Great shot though. It’s one of those cheer you up shots that you can’t help but smile at. Thanks also for your kind words on my journal page. Much appreciated. Keep on cickin’ Mel.

this is one of my favorites! it reminds me of a woman i saw in North Kivu carrying a backpack on her head! You have captured the essence of the streets in Congo, I love it!
