Child rape victim Rwanda
In Rwanda people live with the memory of a brutal genocide which only ended 13 years ago. It has left a legacy of despair and violence and a horrific level of HIV. This young woman was raped at 14 and is a mother at 16. Her mother has HIV. She represents the norm.

Melinda, your photo-journalism really creates an impact. Your protrait images of Congo & Rwandan women are beautifully captured. This one with the hand coming in from the side is very moving and somehow puts our lives into perspective.
Rooftop views in downtown Collingwood are one thing but being witness to the despair and devastion that you have experienced through your work, must leave an indelible scar on the heart.

o.k…due to too many merlot’s last night i obviously neglected to save my comment after i wrote it…it went a little something like this…..humans can be so cruel but we also have a huge capacity for kindness and supporting one another…..my favorite part of this pic is the hand touching the girls arm…sometimes the apparently smallest gestures help so much.

I’m so thrilled you noticed the hand Artemis. I almost photoshopped it out can you believe! Thanks for your comment. And enjoy the merlot!
