In Rwanda people live with the memory of a brutal genocide which only ended 13 years ago. It has left a legacy of despair and violence and a horrific level of HIV. This young woman was raped at 14 and is a mother at 16. Her mother has HIV. She represents the norm.

o.k…due to too many merlot’s last night i obviously neglected to save my comment after i wrote it…it went a little something like this…..humans can be so cruel but we also have a huge capacity for kindness and supporting one another…..my favorite part of this pic is the hand touching the girls arm…sometimes the apparently smallest gestures help so much.
