When I first met EllaRose the thing that struck me was how beautiful she was, and therefore I was compelled to photograph her face, rather than do the standard fine art nude thing. Don’t get me wrong, we did quite a lot of those poses too, however I’m still very much drawn to the images I shot of her face. This was shot with my lensbaby, slightly defocussed to give an over-all soft feel. Because I’m still very new to photography, and fine art nude in particular, I’ve always done what feels right for me, without knowing or caring much for the “rules,” such as they are. I was very lucky to have spent a good deal of time in Mexico chatting with the brilliant Billy Sheahan whose ability to teach without even trying is second to none! He brought up this question today about whether to use colour or black and white for fine art nudes
To that end I’ve processed both a colour and monochrome, and would love to hear your thoughts on which works for you. Clickable image below.
