Pastel Dawn
I posted this yesterday, something I had played with a couple of days earlier, because I’m constantly inspired by the amazing work around me, here on the bub.
Matt Penfold mentioned he’d been tinkering with a screen dump of it, so we had a bit of a chat, and I have sent him the jpg. The quality of the images out of the 5D have constantly blown me away, going from the 20D as I had….and the 5D Mk II is another step up again!
Meanwhile, I have been playing with it again….

in warm tones

in cool cross processing tones

Pretty much as is from the camera, with a bit of lightening in the rocks area
And not one of these look anything like the one Matt sent me….LOL!
There are so many ways to interpret an image…..
Paul Louis Vil...
Many, many, many ways!!
They’re all quite beautiful though! :D

Thanks Paul, it is a beautiful place, but deadly to climb down to where I shot these images from….lol

Yes – sometimes the hardest part is picking which version you like best :)
Mel Brackstone replied
Sure is…..and I’m still unsure!

Mel…...this is very informative!!
I reckon I could add a million more images if I wasn’t bold enough to eliminate all but one!!
How do you find the Mk II? I’m considering the purchase, and would appreciate any downsides and upsides!!
Mel Brackstone replied
David, I LOVE the Mk II, it’s even better than the original….mind you, I’m not techy at all….the proof of the pudding is in the images, and it just produces such fantastic clarity and amazing detail….only downside is it takes a different battery to my other 4 Canon digi cams, upside is the battery is much more efficient….
David Murphy
Ok….....!!
Sounds great…..I knew about the different battery thingy, should cope with that!
I’m interested in the AE light sensor….....the 400D tends to bail out at low light levels, and I can’t see a damn thing after dusk, before dawn etc etc, so focusing is a no-go zone!! I have been told it is excellent for those visually impaired like moi!!
Mel Brackstone replied
I haven’t tested this cam in those conditions, although we have been attempting instead to learn where infinity is in our lenses (in good light) so that we can manually focus in low light….
Matt Penfold
They all look pretty special Mel, the warm tone one is particularly interesting because it seems to have that contrast of warmth in the tones but coolness in the subject.
I’m still blown away by just how much actual colour and detail information is in the screen dump of your original posted image. Even the highlights on the rocks reflecting the colour in the sunrise:
Mel Brackstone replied
I guess the fact there’s still so much detail in a screen dump means that it’s going to be a worthwhile rip off, hey? LOL Thanks for making me put some effort into showing off some alternative views, Matt. Probably don’t do that enough.

Wow, isn’t it incredible how color can change the mood and perception of a scene! Great examples! Myself I am leaning towards the warm tones, but all are amazing!
Mel Brackstone replied
Colour can certainly change a mood. Thanks Joanne!

They are all beautiful indeed! I love the one in warm tones, though!
