Seascapes Group

I’m very pleased to announce the new group Seascapes

I’m looking forward to viewing waterscapes from around the world. I’d like to think that we can upload just our very very best, so please, look through the featured images and see if you can match them!

  1. Three photos per member only
  2. If you’d like critique, please ask.
  3. If you’d like information on how different techniques have been produced, please ask
  4. If you think you have a question that I haven’t mentioned, please ask.

Thanks for sharing your photos with us!

Clouds go in the sky, Cathleen :)

    hehe

You can put them in landscape, I’m guessing

Mel – can I take it for granted that any ‘water’ scape will do?

Thanks for this Mel, it’s a group that needed to be created.

I also note that, even at this early stage, there’s a couple of people who don’t appear to have got the “only one per day” request. ;-)

I have a question that’s probably more interface related.

There don’t appear to be any forums attached to the groups, so whilst I found this entry here in your journal, where do we ask these questions such as you mention?

I can’t find a way to upload to the group. Can youplease give me some indication?

bidkev: Go to the image you want to add to the group, but in edit mode, somewhere on the page you’ll find a list of checkboxes for the groups you’re a member of. Check for this group and save your image’s details.

Personally I think it’s a horribly kludgy way of doing things and I hope RB change it at some point.

  • Mel Brackstone

Brenda, I expect they will come. You can bubblemail the person you wish to ask, until then.

  • Mel Brackstone

    Mel Brackstone

thanks Dave and Mark…..lol! Mark, I’m originally figured I’d call it seascapes and limit it to seawater, but lakes can be a bit problematic in landscape, can’t they….what does everyone think? Shall we have lakes too?

  • Mel Brackstone

    Mel Brackstone

Looks like we’ve got lakes….lol! Waterscapes it is! Welcome everyone, I’m running out of puff

I was wondering if “Wish you where here…” was good enough to go into the group artwork. I absolutley adore seascapes, as I’m sure you’ve noticed by all of yours I’ve added to my favorites. So, if none of mine are good enough I won’t be offended, I just enjoy joining in on the viewing!

    hello
I have lots of pictures that could go in this group, but since there is only one upload a day, does this apply to writing also, or can we include one picture and one piece of writing related to the sea?
    thanks in advance

  • Mel Brackstone replied

sorry, been in hospital. You can upload one of each, photo or writing per day until the limits are reached.

Aloha Mel, do you suppose you could change the limitations on the number of entries? It would be so much better if you could change the group settings to unlimited art. Then you could also monitor the entries and permit only those images you enjoy the most and it would not restrict me, and others like me, from adding my images to this group. I live on Maui and have thousands of beautiful images and would like to include my very best in Seascapes.

Thank you so much for your consideration. I wish you a bright and beautiful day!

    Aloha,

    Sharon

  • Mel Brackstone replied

Sorry Sharon, with so many members there is no way I can moderate the uploads, nor can I allow unlimited entries, the group would become too unweildy. It’s best to just keep your best 5 in there at any one time, there’s more chances of them being seen. Feel free to delete and replace as often as you like, as long as it’s still just one a day.

  • Sharon Mau

    Sharon Mau

Oh je, it will be so tedious, but okay. I’ll do my best to participate. Mahalo Mel

  • Mel Brackstone replied

There’s no need for it to be tedious, just leave the group and rejoin….that cleans out the previous five. I don’t have that luxury!

  • dougie1

    dougie1

1 per day, 5 max is stupid

  • Mel Brackstone replied

There’s over two thousand six hundred members, dougie….if the uploads were higher, there’d be absolutely no chance of ever finding anything…as it is I’m seriously considering dropping the limit lower….because it’s becoming unmanageable….

  • dougie1

    dougie1

you nneed help, get another moderator, i have left, i could upload 10 every day! no offence mel i like you.

  • Mel Brackstone replied

Don’t you think I could upload that many a day too? Point is, if we want to showcase the best work, it’s becoming impossible to find, because there just isn’t enough time in a day to go through 354 pages of images….I just keep rotating my images….and I have three other co-hosts….

  • dougie1

    dougie1

i can understand that, but lots of groups are unlimited, like landscape, and others, so how can they do it?

  • Mel Brackstone

    Mel Brackstone

It’s just too easy to let the group fill up with hundreds and hundreds of pages, but seriously, how on earth is anyone supposed to find anything….most people will just go back 3 or 4 pages at most….I don’t see the point in letting the group fill up, just because we all have more than 5 seascape shots. What we need to do is find our 5 BEST seascape shots….and not upload autumn leaves and dewdrops….I have enough to do just cleaning out the NON seascape shots! Anyway, I’m off out….if you come up with a solution on how to make a group of 10,000 images workable, let me know matey :)

  • Peter Barnes

    Peter Barnes

Mel, stick to your guns, five pics per person is plenty, and forces us to think about which are indeed the best. In your original post one of your dot points is “If you’d like critique, please ask”. What is the best way of asking – posting a comment on your own photo, posting here, ...?

  • Mel Brackstone replied

Thanks Peter, I agree it certainly does help to make you think before you upload….
There is a critique forum where you can specifically ask for help, or you can ask for it in the description of your photo, or you can specify in your profile that you’re open to critique. The consensus seems to be that most people don’t want to see negative comments under their images, in case it puts off a potential buyer. Good luck…
