Art Deco Heaven

If you’re interested, there’s a new group for all your Art Deco images

Art Deco was a popular international design movement from 1925 until 1939, affecting the decorative arts such as architecture, interior design, and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as fashion, painting, the graphic arts and film. This movement was, in a sense, an amalgam of many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism, Modernism, Bauhaus, Art Nouveau, and Futurism. Its popularity peaked in Europe during the Roaring Twenties and continued strongly in the United States through the 1930s. Although many design movements have political or philosophical roots or intentions, Art Deco was purely decorative. At the time, this style was seen as elegant, functional, and modern.

oh Mel…thank you SO much for this notice. I am VERY passionate about Art Deco. I live in a house built around the turn of the century (1912) to be exact and although my tastes are eclectic…the art deco movement shows itself in my decor, my artwork, etc. In short, I adore it (I have lots of Mucha prints). So this group is going to be RIGHT up my alley. Thank you SO much!!

Love art from this period so can’t wait to see what comes up in this group. I’ve got some lovely “flapper ” shots of Lee Burgess that I’ve been waiting to find a suitably art deco background/room for so hopefully someone will post something I can request to use too.

Thanks Mel, just joined and will put some work over from my time in Napier. There’s an Art Deco exhibition on here in Melbourne atm that I’m dying to get to. The original part of our home is art deco. The ceiling roses and ornamentation are beautiful.

New Mexico has its own form of Art Deco. Stucco or adobe building with Art Deco influences. It’s called Pueblo Deco.
