Excellent capture Mel
Disenchanted
There really isn’t many images in your portfolio here at RB that I would say don’t appeal to me Mel… once again, fantastic work.
MikeO
Hi Mel,
Wonderful image – I like the way you’ve composed/caught the oceans swirl which accentuates the circular lines. The slow exposure adds to the mood as well…
Nicely done.
Regards,
Mike
Mike Emmett
That rocks, mel. My fave from this location, for sure.
Simon Muirhead
omg wow!
Naomi Frost
OMG…...just stunning, Mel. I love that swirl. Another winner from your “SS Dickey” series.
Catherine Davis
This is awesome. I love the unmoving steel against the swirling water, slowly the water is wearing it down but for now it remains proud and unmoved!
Hans Kawitzki
Nice one Mel,I like the curves in the water, using your 70-200 should have kept your feet dry ?
Mel Brackstone replied
not a chance, Hans….I started shooting with this lens well after getting soaked earlier, so kept walking into the water to get the shot right.
funkyfacestudio
Awesome closeup mel ! love the movement and the misty spray !
mlgkats

Ria Rosa Quinto

Caroline Gorka
Great movement …well done Mel..yet again:)
Paul Vanzella
this is incredible… the timing of the shot is everything… amazing capture – you feel so involved with this image, as if you are part of the sea, stirring!
Mel Brackstone replied
I almost was part of the sea, knee deep and more most of the morning :)
Linda Syms
Another great composition Mel
hugo
Mel this is a very effective exposure, not an HDR photo?
Mel Brackstone replied
No Hugo, moving water is particularly difficult to do with HDR, well tough to get a good result without a LOT of messing around and post prod getting the best of the white water…usually masking and layering has to be done after hdr….this shot was the overexposed bracketted shot, which I liked best from the series of three. Much faster and easier processing with a single file too :)
marshall calve...
do I like the flow and a hint of golden light
hugo
Thanks for the info on HDR, thought of trying it, but??
Mel Brackstone replied
not thought of trying it, not with the three from this bracketting, no….they are just too far apart – timewise….the flow of the waves was so fast…there’d be ghosting all over the place.
Andy Harris
this is super Mel… creates an atmosphere all of its own… you are exceptionally good at crafting these masterpieces out of what might seem ordinary shots…Well done!
beckie
This is wonderful! love the feeling of movement in the waves!

My goodness, this is beautiful, Mel. What a splendid composition. I have grown a passion for the stumps of frames from the SS Dickey. No wonder you visit this place now and then. And the water is gorgeous with the golden reflections. Excellent lighting.
Tony Fallon
Fantastic. Love how this has so many aspects of motion all in one little scene
Dharna

richiedean
Like your postwork Mel….. I wonder how much longer the wreck will stay intact ….
Halcyon007
Like the close up Mel (makes a change from 16mm :) ) but the thing that stands out the most is the lighting. That patch of light on the left hand side is just magical. The way the water sweeps around that patch leaving it exposed and ready for that reflection is timing in perfection.
Sean Farragher
