I’m not sure about heat but it sure has power and strength in it. Another wonderful image, you are the master we aspire to with these!
Michael Walters

Matt Penfold
I’m dreaming of taking a photo like that one day Mel :-)
billyboy
Wow, this is fckin’ VOLCANIC!
What flash setup did you use on this Mel?
Mel Brackstone replied
nature provided the flash :)
bill oneil
Supurb…..lessons please…..
Mel Brackstone replied
Hey Bill, the toughest thing about shooting a scene like this is watching the weather and tides and making sure you get there when it all comes together. My shooting buddy Nick Lagos does all the hard work where that’s concerned….working out all the variables that will produce the best weather. I just tag along….shoot, sometimes drive, and share breakfast…..we make a great team….LOL!!
David Murphy
Wow, Mel…......the 5D has been a good tool for these shots, coupled with your eye,and skill, its a devastating team!! is this straight out of the box, no HDR etc? Just curious, not being nosey!
Stunning!!
Mel Brackstone replied
The only jiggery pokery is the fact I manually blended the under exposed and the over exposed shots out of the three bracketted shots, David. I wanted the movement on the rocks, but also the clouds…..HDR wouldn’t have given me the result I was after….so I used MDR (Mel’s dynamic range) heh

Amazing image Mel So alive
Paul Vanzella
wow – and wow again….!!!!! has to be your finest work for me Mel – this reminds me of those religious pictures my mum insisted hanging in my bedroom… where the colour palette had me transfixed… as does this image here…. quite an extraordinary image Mel and wonderful memory trigger for me… REALLY LOVE THIS!
Mel Brackstone replied
It’s almost akin to a religious experience for me to shoot these images Paul, so I’m pleased to trigger such good memories for you too!
Lance Leopold
Awesome,Mel,is that water on the rocks or lightning?cos it’s made the water boil, fantastic as usual!!
Irene Burdell
Wow this is wonderful Mel a fantastic shot . and a fav
Sharon Hammond
Yes. I too can see lightning on the rocks. Magnificent
Peter Martin
pls forgive my impertinence, but which “Lee ND Grads” ? I suffer from a “washed-out” sky problem – might you (please) be more specific ?? :)
Mel Brackstone replied
It would have been the 0.9 and the 0.6, Peter.
lightsmith
so powerful, so moody – absolutely brilliant piece.
Alf Caruana
wonderfull Mel, Elegant and mysterious composition. love the effect of the long exposure on the water and the dark contrasty tones of the image.
RhondaR
Love this Mel. Has such wonderful mood to it.
Colleen Milburn

Joel Murdoch
Spectacular, probably my favourite image of yours yet.
Tom Gomez
Powerful and beautifully compose (as always), love it …
Pamela Inverarity
another stunning and really inspiring seascape. Makes me want to pick up my camera and head for the coast, but I live hundreds of kms inland and need to run my business rather than have fun by the sea …
Mick Davson
This is great – very dramatic with the sharpness making the whole scene give off a stark and thunderous atmosphere
reflexio

Mel Brackstone replied
I never use the 0.3 :D
Peter Martin
so its the 0.9 + the 0.6 ND Grad then? but never the 0.3 :) ?
Mel Brackstone replied
That’s pretty much it…..and no polariser
sparrowdk

My first response to this image was that it was so elemental and bibilical! Glad to hear that others had the same kind of feeling on viewing! Wow, what a canvas you compose!
Louise Cooke

mstrace
I’m not sure if I’ve said this before Mel, but I’m running out of adjectives to describe what your work does for me. This is simply transcendent literally and completely. If heaven exists or if worlds were to be left untouched and unmarred by man’s idiocy and greed, I think that place would look like this photograph. I’m desperate to close my eyes. Only to open them and be inside this photograph.
Mel Brackstone replied
It is one I’d like to get back into! Thanks mstrace :)
Wendi Donaldson
