Oh my lord…not a single thing in the world would entice me to place my hand on that gate and swing it open…not for all the cherry beer in Belgium!

I view images as a writer, not a photographer, so forgive me if I don’t mention technique or framing :-) The best comment I can give is when an image makes me hear stories being whispered in my ear, and this just won’t stop. Fabulous!!

  • Fossdos

    Fossdos

I love this image. It’s like Norman Bates’s dead Mum’s house behind the motel in Hitchcock’s movie ‘Psycho’. I’d like to know where the house originally was or still is?

  • Mel Brackstone replied

Thanks! The house was left derelict for many years while the owners tried to get permission to bulldoze it. The heritage council has since stepped in and forced them to “do” something about it. It’s now been “repaired” so that it’s not falling down, but it totally boarded up and all painted off white, including the windows. I took this shot about 2 weeks before that happened! There’s also a large rent-a-fence close up around the building…sigh..oh, and it’s in Brisbane.

  • Fossdos

    Fossdos

The crows flying around the turret could be from Hitchcock’s other movie ‘The Birds’.

  • Fossdos

    Fossdos

I’d never have guessed it was an Australian house. It looks American carpenter gothic and it has no balconies which is unusual for Brisbane. I think I like the image so much because you’ve manipulated to give it the exact emotion I’d have given it if I’d been able. Fences or no fences I’d not be able to stop myself exploring inside but I’d go at night and I’d have to take someone with me.

  • Mel Brackstone replied

Yeah, it’s certainly not Brisbane-style, but has been a landmark building for as long as I can remember, now it’s a blot on the landscape, and will be until the owners take down all the boards, or it gets totally bulldozed….will all depend on who gives in first, I suspect.
