The Last to Leave
Main Street, Wilcannia
I’ve sold a copy of this twice, at exhibitions at the Brisbane Institute of Art. Once A3 on metallic, and once A4 on heavy hahnemuhle paper
A rework of The Last to Leave in an attempt to make it more like Paul Vanzella’s version – at the request of Wicca Davidson.

Perfect composition so aptly titled, love the light and shade…
Rob Brooks
Hey mel, i really like the slightly warmer tone that this version has, and the darker sky seems to put more focus onto the old dog (ohhh he looks even sadder ibn this verion)
but something about the sky just looks a little off to me. Possibly a little too fake??
Feel completly free to disregard my comment
Loredana Crupi
A good rework Mel ….although I din’t mind the original :-)
Dharna

Oohhh, feels so empty, so lonely, and just the little dejected dog! Awesome work :)
WitheringMoon
A beautiful shot i love the lonely feel to it has, and the dog just adds that little something extra, takes it to a new level, great work =)
lizzy
Terrific shot – very nicely processed – love the way the mustard yellow walls are echoed in the colour of the dog, and the sky has a slightly ominous feel. Great composition too.
Sam Sneddon
Great shot Mel. I like that you’ve picked a selection of really interesting buildings to frame this shot. The dog staring off in to the distance adds to the atmosphere. Good work too on bringing up the shadow areas because it really strengthens the colours which is a feature of the buildings. Top job!
David Stuart
Another brillliant shot Mel

Catalin Soare

Deborah Parkin
brilliant – you certainly have achieved your goal here – just like Paul’s work – love this – you are a real inspiration to us all in RB.

The rework is wonderful – although so was the original… l love the new colours, and the dog seems even sadder somehow.
Mel Brackstone

Still a great shot Mel,the sky in the original gives the work has a stronger Australian feel to it ,the brightness make desuetude streetscape so much sadder .
Keegan Wong

Lovely Mel, the colours ooze a dry drought feeling and of desperation also. A tough town Wilcannia.
Adrian Jeffs

JacquelineGwynne

NervousNellie
I love this, wonderful colors and tone.
lonebearimages
This really is a good shot that evokes emotion in the viewer. I, too, like the redo from the original, adds a lot to the overall feel. I wonder how this would look in black and white? Do you have any other versions of this – say, a shot shifted a touch to the right? This would remove the tree, adding to the lonely-look, and including all of the dog’s shadow. I really like that the dog is looking ahead, down his shadow line. Excellent work, Mel! Cheers! Chris
Kara Rountree
This is a great image. The colors are soft and saturated in the warm hues. The dog seems so sad that he has been deserted. There is a total stillness in the air, not one cloud in the sky. Wow, this piece tells an entire story. NICE!
richiedean
great composition Mel, like the way the dogs shadow is going out of the picture, as if thats deserting it too.
Halcyon007
Just has a teriffic feel to it. The colours are superb
Robin Young
Great shot and processing, I feel for the dog.

The image has a way to make the viewer feel sadness for the little one and thats what it should do, great work.

This is superb, Mel…and a little sad :-( I love the mirror of colors between the little one and the buildings, the dark sky, the emptiness. Just fantastic. I’m not sure which version I like better – I have to see the other again, but this is lovely.
Kerry McFarland
PS – oh no, I love this one far more – extraodinary!!!!
