Staged Reality

Beautiful one moment
Dramatically tragic the next
A life that pirouettes out of control
Poised on one pointed toe

She gracefully slips from form
Bone cracking like her heart
She continues to smile her tears
As the show must go on

A performer to the end
She raises her arms to pose
Waiting for the curtain to fall
And the lights to fade

Amid the chaos of sound
Applause and gasps of fear
She feels that rush of adrenalin
That only a dancer knows

She will be ok, they pray
She will be strong, they hope
She will not cry, they taught
I will never dance again, she knows

Staged Reality

Artist's Description

Having been a dancer that “lost it all” in an accident – this piece is very close to home. Being a dancer is a mentality that few understand, and when that ability it taken from you in a split second, you deal with it as a dancer. I have moved on, but occasionally there are moments that remind you what you had and mostly that very moment that it went away. I hope I have captured that feeling here.
