“The dust settles”

Slide with me
Down the hill
Where the bananas grow
Drowned by rain
And absorbed by the dust
That catches around cliffs
And falls by my feet
And settles in the hair
Of the one that sleeps
Closest to the clouds of confusion
Where the silver lining is a drug
Callous in its effect and quick in its dissipation
Barely seen and then it’s gone
Into the membrane of mentality
The core of philosophy
Sucking at the teat of my inventive soul
Each creative image the illusionary mirror of reality
Something felt but never spoken
The quiet silence of regret
Rapping its knuckles at the door of my youth
But there it is sleeping
Unaware of the mirage of horror I have foreseen
In it’s dream it is at depths of peace
I can only imagine and envy
But what if my tropical paradise
Is something captured from a book
Not a real picture
But one taken and altered
By the lens of my eye and the author in my head
So I can never see the real life I am living
But then what’s the purpose in editing my world
When my thoughts will still lead me to question
To decipher every miniscule move
As I see myself rolling
Dirt catching in my eyelash
The grains of sand caught like flashes of my life
And then I am peering down from the rays
At me seeing it and it is now I wonder,
Why I cannot be touched by my outstretched hand.
