Tree
I was perhaps, a tree in a former life…
Tree belongs to the following groups:
1 In The Beginning - Ancient Practices, All Out Emotion, All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Art & Dis(ease), Artists with Disabilities, Deep Within, Everyday Life, Everyday Women, Graphic Scratch, Live, Love, Dream: May you have a Blessed Christmas Season , Self as Other, Sisters in Arms (feminine relationship described), The Healing Journey, The Sensual Word, The Word Tree, United Kingdom, Up & Coming Writers, West Midlands UK and Who are YOU to Judge?Let me be a tree, please,
Standing tall, strong, and bold,
Covered with a million leaves,
And a billion stories to be told.
If you take an axe, and try to cut me down to size,
I’ll come back even stronger, and you will realise,
There will be many more like me, you see,
And we will still be here, my dear one,
When you are dead, and cold, and gone.
Let me be a tree, please,
I want to flaunt my beauty, let my spirit soar,
As the seasons, they do come, and yet in their turn, must flee,
Winter, with cold, Spring, with hope, Summer, with joy, and Autumn, with the fall,
Let me be a tree, please,
I’d be such a useful thing, do you not see?
Wonderful literature, sublime poetry,
The finest art, and priceless Antiques, do you envy me?
When the frosty wind bites, leaving you cold,
My logs will keep you warm inside, glowing red and gold,
When you are needing rest, after all your toil is done,
In the relentless glare of high summers midday sun,
I’ll protect you with my shady canopy, a glory to behold.
Let me be a tree, please,
See how my blooms charm and delight,
Sweet nectar for butterflies, bees and their like,
My lucious fruit quenches your thirst, and tease,
Dancing upon your tastebuds with delicate ease.
All manner of creatures pay homage to me,
Birds serenading me in all their finery,
They set up home in the bosom of my care,
Knowing that their precious young are protected there.
Let me be a tree, please,
I want to bask in the sun and take the breeze,
Smile as the children climb and laugh and play,
High up into my branches, where I dance and sway.
Let me be a tree, please,
Please, let me be a tree,
Let me be a tree, please,
Or let me be,
Let me be me.
Then everyone will see,
There is nothing in all the world,
As sublime as a tree,
Nothing in all the world,
As sublime as me.

Let me be the wind that blows through your leaves, the rain that bathes you, nourishes you and caresses you.
Such nature only a goddess can inspire.

Lovely poem. I suppose we only take them (trees) for granted because there’s zillions of them.
Delphine de Noire replied
Thankyou Narcissus, alas tis true, but they (trees) are all unique, beautiful and vital for our well-being and survival… Imagine a world without trees…

Fantastic words, and so true. “Be a tree and I will climb you and rest with the breeze blowing against my face, and the soft voices of a million leaves telling me a bedtime story.”
Delphine de Noire replied
Thankyou Paul, my friend, such beautiful words…

Absolutely gorgeous! I wanted to quote some lines but it’s like each one is its own little poem in itself, so I just say again, it’s really a gorgeous write and congratulations on your feature. Well done.

I think this is great Medusa, richly poetic and beautiful. You have balanced just enough black shadows and defiance in your desire with heart felt language . The perfect combination to prevent it from being one of the usual mawkish poems about this common human longing. A brave subject choice – one that could easily make the reader cringe but instead captivates.

I love this video. You may enjoy it too. Admitedly a tongue in cheek treatment of wanting to be a tree but beautifully childlike.
Delphine de Noire
Thankyou Tim, your kind and thoughtful comments are incredibly helpful…
Still navigating my way through the glorious paths of this ancient and sublime art…
I checked out the link, and you are right, it did make me smile… I will return to it often, particularly when I grow weary of responsibility… :-)
