Wandering the promenade
She stopped to tuck
Her dolly’s blanket
Tight around her
Belinda’s hungry
She said
Rubbing her own
Little belly
My eyes wandered
To crashing waves
And slowly circling
‘Sammy’ seagulls
I turned back to see
Belinda on the floor
The pram tipped
And abandoned
Spun on my heels
Heart pounding
Searching the path
And the sandy shore
There she was
Only feet away
Stock still and staring
At the wondrous moon
Discovery
A poem, a memory.

oh i know the feeling of losing the world for 30 seconds…but finding it again is soooo much sweeter. makes everything seem vivid and vibrant again.

Beautifully written and observed, Meach. And yes, to worry at a child then find them engaged in a personal discovery, privately connecting to the moon. All lovely imagery from you.

She stood staring at the moon for what seemed like hours but didn’t ask any questions – that’s why I always remember it – it was as if the moon was too big a concept for a four year old so she was storing it up for later.

That’s a lovely poetic thread, too, your line here about it being too big a concept and storing it up. I recall (and your writing aids in that) the experience of watching, soaking in, and love that this child is doing that.. Very beautiful to describe, Meach.
