Verse 1

Everybody’s passing by
Without the time
for the time of day
Nobody painted the sky
Shadows are growing
To have their say
There’s whispers on the washing lines
Twisted in the wind
Gathering smoke from the embers
Of a dying day

Chorus
Somebody’s saving sunshine
(Somebody somewhere)
Somebody’s making hay
Somebody’s saving sunshine
For a rainy day

Verse 2

A girl is leaving town
Riding along on the hiraeth* train
Raindrops chasing down
A misty circle on the window pane
A suitcase full of promises
Packed with sad cliches
Leaving the child she used to be
To doorstep dreams

Chorus

Verse 3

Sitting in a bar
With a foaming dream of giro day
The money won’t go far
Two pennies are quickly rubbed away
He slowly swills the dregs around
In hope of charity
But his glass remains as empty
As the barman’s smile

Chorus

Verse 4

Wrapped in idle talk
Old men wander in to times long gone
The factory whistle’s call
And the rattle of the Spitfire’s song
They talk of war and dying
Re-live it all again
As they watch the children playing
At their soldiers’ games

Final chorus

Somebody’s saving sunshine
(Somebody somewhere)
Somebody’s making hay
Somebody’s saving sunshine
Bet it’s no-one down my way

*hiraeth – Welsh word for longing (usually for home)

Thanks CD it’s a thing I’ve always loved doing – I used to perform my stuff in pubs and clubs but lost all confidence in it for many years – it’s only since being on RedBubble that I’ve rediscovered the heart to publicise it
