Yeah, I too am pretty attached my Grams used to have her whole house adorned with the most gorgeous figurines and I always admired how she related to them and the stories that each when held for her…
Meach in reply to LocoCow’s comment, 5 months ago
Owls are a more recent discovery for me – I captured (in a photographic sense) the one in my portfolio called Sleeping and I’ve been hooked ever since – I’m trying to read about them but I get the books and can’t stop looking at the pictures – superb

My favorite bird, and this unusual angle is a real treat, Meach. He looks more pensive than prowling alert, and he looks spectacular. Okay, scrolled back up to look again, maybe there’s a field mouse in those keen eyes. But it’s still a rare shot, and beautiful against that sky. One flew into my old carriage house studio once in BROKLYN! I grabbed a neighbor to witness, no camera. The owl lifted off a window ledge and glided, unruffled, massive wing span, across the studio and perched on a huge curtain dowel. I was completely beside myself with the wonder of it all, got within about two feet and kept asking him if he was hungry, what I could do. Mid- morning, eyes closing by the time I left the dear thing alone with a can of cat food! He was gone at night, all the winows wide open for him. I’ve always considered it an extraordinary blessing.
Meach in reply to Barbara Sparhawk’s comment, 5 months ago
Wow what an experience – you should write that as a story and add it to the birds group.
They are amazingly tolerant of humans – seem completely fearless
Barbara Sparhawk, 5 months ago
Within five minutes I was on the phone to every bird related anything I could find. One bunch kept saying keep back, remember the talons, raptor, etc., but yes, you’re right, and maybe it’s because they know we’re no match. Afraid as I was of alarming him, he was sanguine through the whole thing, whereas I was practically on my head with amazed joy. I didn’t even know NY HAD owls. The carriage house had open beamed, 15 foot ceilings and it must’ve looked like a barn. I also had mice. Ah,NY. The detail you’ve shown on this is owl is so gorgeous, Meach. Thank you for whatever suffering in the elements you endured to bring him here.

There are many urban owls apparently though I’ve never witnessed one – urban foxes are now so common they are taking on vermin status – a shame because they are still hunted in the countryside despite the ban
