On a recent memorial day visit with my father to his birthplace in central Montana (Denton), I spied this dramatic photo op of the dominant geologic feature in this part of Montana – Square Butte and it’s smaller cousin Round Butte (to right of the larger butte). These were my father’s playground in the 30’s during his early adolescence. Fatherless, he hunted meat for the family; grandma and his 4 siblings, in these parts, and at 95 can still talk explicitly of the specific places he prowled and the adventures he had during those days.
