Rolling onto the scene early 2010, Murder City Roller Girls have successfully smashed their way into position as Adelaide’s second largest Roller Derby league. MCRG offers a dynamic level-by-level training – taking girls from raw meat, through fresh meat, to ‘bout’ ready, roller-girl status, making the derby dream available to everyone from seasoned skaters to roller fans. In 2010, MCRG held its first official round of public skater intakes. Over several months, nearly 80 skaters and refs were put through their paces with a series of gruelling training sessions and demanding skills tests. But the hard work paid off and MCRG had two teams in the works, and a full fleet of skating referees. One year and another successful intake later, MCRG currently boasts a 40+ squad of roller girls, trainers, refs and non skating officials. Complete with two full teams – The Vigilantes and The Dames of Hazard – MCRG have booty blocked and jammed their way through an enormous 2011, ending the year with a series of bouts open to family and friend. MCRG are now gearing up for a tremendous 2012, with a fourth intake, a set bouting season and some interstate battles in the works. So if you can hit like a girl, ref with the best, or if you’re simply a derby fan, MCRG is set to be the league to watch in 2012.
