Drive Down Liberty Lane - Fall in Rhode Island

Jack McCabe

Austin, United States

Artist's Description

Liberty Lane once ran continuously from Route 138 to Route 2 South County Trail, the latter and the former were known Indian trails in Southern Rhode Island, a region of New England that was populated by the native Narrgansett tribe, roots go back thousands of years.
Amtrak blocked off the road in 1976 in preparation of the NECIP, (North East Corridor Improvement Project). As of the year 2000 the Acela Express passes across this right of way at 150 miles per hour. The Narragansett Pier Railroad ran across this road from 1876 to 1977. It is now the O’Neill Bike Path route.
