Artist's Description

The homeless often stake out locations near busy intersections with overpasses nearby to be near shelter from weather. It offers opportunities to pan handle while cars line up waiting for lights to change.
Usually they walk along the side of the cars holding a handmade sign with various appeals. Like “Anything Helps”, “Need Bus Ticket”, “Hungry”, or “God Bless You”! This fella didn’t seem to have the energy to get up.
I didn’t have anything ready to hand him, and it just happened that my car was the first up at the light and he was right beside me.
So I looked in the compartment and noticed I had a spare set of sunglasses. Being out in the weather as they are, I figured he could at least use these.
I tossed them over and he immediately started to clean them off with his hanky. He never looked up. But he didn’t have to, I knew he’d use them.
There are over 3000 homeless sleeping outside every night in Austin Texas.
