    He worked out a deal with the Narragansett’s tribe to purchase/trade for a settlement here he names Providence, out of respect for God’s Providence!

    That’s amusing. Rhode Islanders were the first colony to burn a British vessel in the start of the American Revolution. One of the first of the original 13 colonies. The Legislature is predominantly Democratic. The longest running 4th of July parade takes place every year here in Bristol. Rhode Island is solidly in the ‘blue’ state category.
