Introducing Scoop Neck Tees and Unisex Tanks — FIND OUT MORE

Swimming Trio is based on the idea that on a busy day the pool can be teaming with people attempting to keep cool and swim their laps. Confusion and splashing is every where.

I’ve attempted to create texture by gluing cotton wool to the canvas to see if I could create that splashing effect.

Materials: Acrylic, cotton wool on canvas
Size: 50 × 60 cm

    Powerful image

  • Thank you, again for your kind comment. I do like playing with texture at time and making art out of ordinary things like cotton wool.

This is very unique! I can smell the chlorine :).

  • Thank you, Niki, for your wonderful comments. I swim almost everyday so I don’t even notice the chlorine.

Fantastic result Michelle, I will have to try that too. I have seen some art created from unusual, every day materials, like painting over aluminium foil and corrugated cardboard. I have been known to paint over gessoed sand, and that is interesting to do too. I love working with acrylic for that reason.

  • Thank you for wonderful comments, Christine. I enjoy acrylic for the same reason – it is so much fun to splash around and stick things to. I do have one failure that does involve steel wool being used as a person’s hair, which was interesting.

Michelle, wonderful artwork! Your experiment with the wool is a great idea. I love self taught artists.

  • Thank you, for your kind comments – cotton wool is wonderful to work with as it is so easy to manipulate and will harden once it is varnished.

    Cotton! Clever lady. great work

  • Thank you for dropping by and your fantastic comments – I thought I’d try the cotton and see what happens. Makes fantastic textures but is very messy to apply but I love it.
