Artist's Description

I painted this as part of my support of Indigenous rights here in Australia. I believe my ancestors ‘invaded’ this land without much regard for the Aboriginal Peoples who had bee living here for at least 20,000 years! Yes, I acknowledge the fact that my comfortable middle class origins have been nurtured from stolen lands and the wealth contained therein. I own that, recognize that fact, I also recognise all of the Aboriginal people who have defended Australia from hostile forces since Federation, even though they for the most part of that time not actually recognised as ‘Australian Citizens’ – now I want to give back what I can by supporting Indigenous Rights here in Australia. I wholeheartedly support the political/social moves our we are ‘slowly’ making as a nation and towards a TREATY. There is a huge wealth of knowledge still very much alive in our Aboriginal Peoples of Australia, we need to listen more to them if we are going to truly understand the nature of this ancient country.
