I have decided to upload this one to see if some one out there can help me! Years ago, back in the early 90s, an ‘Associate’ of mine organised for me to send some paintings over to a gallery in Western Australia.
All went well initially as I sent some paintings over there, no sales happened, after a month, said unnamed associate rang me stating “all of your paintings are missing!” I said and how did that happen I wonder? I was then told “the gallery director has been in a bad car crash and somebody who either ran the galley with him or he owed money to, took the paintings as payment of the now comatose gallery director” I mentioned that my associate should follow this up and get my paintings back….he said “hey Mate I have lost paintings too!” at the time I was in north Queensland and cleaning up after a cyclone, in which a lot of my paper work was destroyed! As I had my hands full rebuilding after a cyclone, I had to take it on the chin…after a month or so when the dust had settled I phoned my associate up and asked how things were going re- retrieval of our paintings…he would not talk about it to me and made it quite clear that it was my fault that I lost my paintings and should be more professional! Well he may be right…I took it on the chin! It taught me a valuable lesson! I now have a much better system of the in-goings and outgoings of my paintings into galleries! to be honest I can’t remember the name of the gallery, or the gallery director, or whether the man died, I hope he lived. So I am uploading this one, to see if some one out there has ever seen it on a wall, sometime someplace! technically I consider this painting as “STOLEN” and I would like to know where it is and who has it, if I find out I will go and get it…personally! If the ‘art collector’ who has my painting doesn’t want the pleasure of meeting me ‘IN PERSON’ they can text me on this number (0457 229 173) I am not mad, I am not trying to get even, I just want my painting back! I will also upload another painting that also went ‘walkies’ which was part of that consignment to the now defunct gallery…the other painting is a ‘two up game’ titled “Playing Cockatoo”. So if anyone has ever seen my paintings in their travels, please – either Bubble mail me or text me! I would appreciate any help.

I have a friend in Newcastle with a very similar story! Lost a whole body of work to some gallery/dealer in Sydney. He was in Darwin at the time.
Then had work being stored by a local gallery here in Newcastle when the owner died. The heirs to the gallery said they must have been lost. So he lost 2 bodies of work!!
    Good luck with finding yours.

  • Thanks Lyn, compared to your mate from Darwin, I think I got off lightly , learned my lesson, I can tell you.! ;-(

Wonderful painting Gus, I hope you get it back. A similar thing happened to me when a shonky gallery owner took off with one of my paintings, once bitten twice shy!.

  • Thanks mate! yeah it seems that there are more sharks in the water than first noted when one’s toe is first put in!

I lost a painting at a local radio station when I was still at school!! Does that count? Everyone else’s came back except mine…. : (( It’s sad to think that we must be so wary of who has our work…… I really hope you do see this painting again…. It’s just brilliant…. as is all your work….. : ))

  • Thanks for viewing my work Jenny and your words of encouragement! ;o)
