When I am out in the Bush walking around, I find myself looking up a lot. this idea came to me one night while I was watching the many bats that frequent our property.

Day Night Vortex
by Cary McAulay

Cary drew in biro from the age of 4 until his first oil painting at the age of 16. With the strong foundation of the values of drawing when he began painting there was an explosion of bright colour in his art. The creative flood-gates had opened! Cary has won many Art Awards all over Australia, ranging from The Portland Art Prize and more recently the Bendemeer Art Prize (twice).
“With my art, I focus on the beauty of our environment and our effect we have upon the natural world.”

amazing work Cary, brilliant concept, it’s just incredibly wonderful

  • Thanks K Bock! We have a place we called Anam Cara in the Bush north of Brisbane, it is well wooded with magnificent Gum Trees. we go up there to paint. I like to just walk into the bush anytime of the day or night and look up. I love to see the upper canopy live. this concept is part of a series of ‘Looking Up’ compositions, another painting I have on redbubble in this series is ‘The Toss’ check it out sometime.

excellent !! and Sharon Wilcox just on the phone and says “HI Gus”!!

  • Hi Sharon and Jenny, I always miss the beauty of my hometown Innisfail, starting a few new ones soon about the Johnstone Rivers….this painting is inspired from our ‘Bush Block’ up at Blackbutt, we have 5 acres of Forest that we retreat to from Brisbane as often as possible…just spend the week-ends up there painting in the bush, great for the soul…!

it reminds me of the Ying/Yang symbol. Awesome work Cary

  • Thanks Sable- yeah I guess the yin yang symbol is always with me somewhere in the background, it deeply believe in its wisdom! In fact the spiral in ‘Vortex’ is more from my Celtic Spirituality, now that is something is deep within my heart!

I am not a writer but one day I wrote this and your painting reminds me of it:
    Thank you for the Light
    Thank you for the Dark
Without Light there would be no Dark
Without Dark there would be no Light
Remember the Light in the Darkness
Remember the Dark in the Lightness
    Thank you for the Light
    Thank you for the Dark
Without one the other could not Be.
The balance of the 2 is so important and that’s what I see in your painting.

  • Wow ! your poem certainly does suit ‘Vortex’ thank you for sharing it here Whisper, this is a special thing – thank you :o)
actually it is similar to a blessing…I like John O’Donohue a poet and Hegelian philosopher from County Clare, Ireland…
this poem/blessing has touched my heart of creation…just after reading it I had an idea for a painting…I might do some sketches in acrylic…see what happens…poems are so inspiring for me. I am currently working on a series of paintings inspired from ‘The Deer’s Cry’ each line is a painting
    “Firmness of Rock’ etc
    I’ll upload them as I finish them…
    Thank you again :o)
