Winter Has Arrived
I finally dragged myself away from the computer today for a hike up Pen y Fan (the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons for those who don’t know). The forecast was excellent and at last winter has arrived!

It was bitterly cold and extremely windy on the summit but well worth the view.
PLEASE NOTE THAT BLOG ENTRIES WILL APPEAR “HE…
Photography or Computing?
I call myself a photographer so exactly how much photography do you think I’ve done over the last week? Sadly not enough. Apart from a brief trip out to Swansea Bay last Monday and providing some images for a local estate agent’s web page I’ve spent the week sitting in front of the computer evaluating software and learning new IT skills.
Currently I’m evaluating Adobe Lightroom for potential…
School Photos
Everyone must remember at least one of their own school photos and is probably haunted by them whenever they visit elderly relatives. Artistically they were never really up to much – but then what do you expect when you have a production line of children forced to sit in front of an unforgiving mottled blue background and asked to force a smile in the 5 second time slot they have available for …
Setting Yourself a Project
Photographers are always being told to set themselves a project to help progress their photography. It’s something that I find very useful to get me away from my “bread and butter” landscape and family portrait images and allows me to concentrate on a topic without thinking of the saleability of an image.
The problem I find with projects is finishing them. There are numerous projects that I …
Electric Windows, Progress?
I do normally refrain from non-photography related posts in my blog, but as car-related issues have scuppered much of my photography plans in the last few days I thought I would off-load here :-).
Yesterday my Audi suffered a somewhat catastrophic oil leak resulting the oil pressure light coming on and 2 litres of oil being lost over 24 hours. Most of it all over my drive providing an intere…
Bird Photography Revisited
I’ve previously talked about the frustrations of bird photography even with decent equipment, so I was surprised to capture this image of a Robin last week using just my Canon G10 compact camera.

Now admittedly thi…
Minimum Equipment
From one extreme of equipment to another…
Today I was at the WRC Wales GB Rally just down the road from my house with a lens of length and colour (they have to be white you know!) suitable enough for me to fit in with the mêlée of photographers there (here’s an example of one my the images I captured – Sebastien Loeb). T…
A New Website (coming soon...)
Unsettled weather, lack of photographic inspiration (or at least a desire not to get too wet!) and no portrait sessions booked this week has forced me in front of the computer. One thing I have been meaning to do for some time is work on a new website design so this was top of my list.
My current website design has been fairly static for the last year or so and does not really reflect my ph…
Reflections
Recently I have found myself being drawn to reflections for photographic inspiration. On one day last week I managed to visit two completely different locations and ended up with reflections taken at both (Brecon Canal and Pentwyn Reservoir ). This is n…
RPS Distinctions
We all look for validation of our photographic endeavours and there is something particularly satisfying to have someone else appreciate your work (or even better purchase it!). RedBubble (and simliar sites) are a great example, where people can make direct comments on individual images, buy them and sometimes (if we are lucky) give some constructive feedback too. Co…
