Beached

One of the 1,000’s of shots I got while visiting the North island of New Zealand. The sand on this beach is composed of pulverized volcanic rock. The surrounding rock formations on the shore front looked like they were once a lava flow.

A magnificent image Peter! The sand on the west coast of the South Island is exactly the same.

  • Peter Marin replied

    Thanks Magee.
I’d love to get down to visit the South island, unfortunately it wasn’t on the itinerary this time around. Funny story, my Father Inlaw said to me to not waste my time going to the South island because there was nothing to see, it’s all mountains and lakes, and once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all (: I’ll go anyway.

simple composition with big impact. those sweeping clouds are awesome. Top shot pete.

  • Peter Marin replied

Cheers for that Baz. Keep It Simple, usually the best way. Funny how a small rock can have such impact in a photo.

Peter, Peter, Peter, BEAUTIFUL, what a great rule of third example… love it!

  • Peter Marin replied

Davis, you are far too kind with your praise…...I appreciate it very much though. I should have mentioned in my intro for those interested, I had a polorizer fitted on my lense, and a slide-in filter holder kit as well…....and used two 1/2 ND grads, one was GND3 and the other one was GND2…....both were soft graduation. That sunshine area was just so bright, around 5 or so stop more than the sand. I had to do some fiddling with different grads before I was happy enough, the light levels were all over the shop and changing all the time.
Thanks again for your wonderful comment, you’re a champ.

Other than the fact that you’ve captured an amazing place so beautifully, I’m also amazed at how low the cloud level appears here, or is this an optical illusion? Outstanding shot Pete, magnificent place. Cheers, S.

I have to admit that I’ve viewed this image once before and not commented, however I was remiss in doing so. This is a beautiful moment in nature, captured by one whom holds the key to showcasing just how magnificent these fleeting moments are. Your viewpoint, framing and vision is a talent many wish they had. Cheers, S.
