Lawrence arrived back from Arabia in a low state, thinking he had done the Arabs no service as they were still not in control of their own lands. He spent his time in Bridlington and made sure fast American speedboats were available, and trained his teams to get out swiftly, preparing for the time when airmen would need to be rescued, he was killed in a road accident in the early nineteen thirties and Churchill mourned a good man he had wanted to play a major role in the war they both knew was coming.
