When I was a little girl, rolled up in a cardboard cylinder was a sepia print of a painting by the same name. It belonged to my grandmother and eventually I got it through a circuitous course, and had it framed. It showed a beautiful little Victorian girl standing tiptoe on a stack of books measuring against her sitting St. Bernard.
Well, Jack, who’ve you’ve met before, is now three, smaller than Dottie, the cat (you have also met her), and he knows his place in the house is boss. He is boss of all 7 other dogs and the heart of my heart. I refer to him as my “son”.
He was a rescue from the local high kill animal control. Here he is with Maya, formerly a 3-time reject from the shelter and then a law student who couldn’t take her.
Although Maya is “my” dog, just as Jack is, she recognizes his place as pack leader (under me).
Here he seems to be measuring height, just like the Victorian painting that is found at this link: http://www.encore-editions.com/categories/sir-a...
