My cat, Vern, waking up in his log from an all-day nap in the fall sunshine.
He was a rescue – a family renting the house across the street, left him behind to fend for himself. I’m so lucky he’s mine.
Bayou George, FLSony W50
cat, red tabby, yawning, florida
Author, poet, freelance writer, rescuer of dogs and cats, animal welfare advocate, hookbill owner, occasional wildlife rehabilitator, chaser of bugs who just loves photography.
He looks exhausted, sleeping all day can be soooooooooo tiring. Great shot, Mayj
Now that’s a satisfying yawn! Now for a good kitty stretch – before curling up for another “short” cat nap. Great shot!
AHHH what a beautiful capture of this little feline, has to be a favorite
Awwww . . . great capture, May . . . thanks for the smile . . .
Awww, I’m so glad you took him in; how could anyone just leave such a beautiful animal. Love the long that is Vern’s bed, too. Great shot – and look how long those gorgeous white whiskers are! Congratulations on the feature.
Thank you all. I am so fortunate that I took this series that day, for Vern was struck and killed by a vehicle on our quiet street, two nights before Thanksgiving. I searched for him by car, but couldn’t find him. Thanksgiving evening, I set out on foot and to my horror, I found him just a few feet off the pavement at the boundary of the property. I had passed him many times, but he blended in with the dry leaves. I buried him under a favorite piece of driftwood under the redbud tree.
Bet he thinks he’s lucky he’s yours too May…Terrific shot!! :)
I am so happy I have this photo. Vern had beautiful, unique whiskers – one side curled up, the other down at the tips. Heartbroken over his death two days before Thanksgiving. He went out late and didn’t come when I called. So I stayed up and called again. I found him Thanksgiving night on the shoulder of the road in leaf litter of the same color, just outside the fence. I had driven by many times and didn’t see him, he blended so well. So he is in the yard now, under his favorite cypress stump where he sharpened his claws every day, under the redbud tree. He’s missed by all, especially Dottie, his friend, who even after 3 months still watches for him.
