Caught probing for nectar, a small, dark skipper steps through the royal chamber in search of gold.

The flower on the Confederate rose opens white and as the day progresses, the petals become pink and then rose at night. It’s a shrubby tree I started from a neighbor’s cutting. Despite the drought and lack of water, it has flourished this year.
