COTTONY CUSHION SCALE INSECT by

Walking the dogs through the yard I noticed something that was white growing on the wild pea that has a pink flower. I saw the ribs and thought it might be the egg case of a large moth. Out came the camera the next day.

I was surprised to learn that this insect named above, is a dangerous predator to crops, especially citrus. Now, HOW did that insect know a large tangerine tree I started as a pit years ago was three feet away?

I didn’t know that the nymphs were present in this photo. It’s a very beautiful creature.

Taken in Bayou George, FL with my little, old Sony W50.
