Ashley, my beautiful, half nekkid, African Grey. I daresay, the Martha Ray of Greys!
Sony W50Bayou George, FL
african grey, parrot, florida, clowning
Author, poet, freelance writer, rescuer of dogs and cats, animal welfare advocate, hookbill owner, occasional wildlife rehabilitator, chaser of bugs who just loves photography.
Oh I love African Greys! A man that owned a business here in town years ago had one that always came to work with him. Each time you’d stop by the store the bird was the first one to greet you; and the funniest part was that you couldn’t tell from the tone of the voice that it wasn’t human! ROTFL! Great capture! What’s his “rescue” story? ;o)
A friend rescued her years ago from the vet she worked for. She got no attention. Truckers who had her, and left her alone for weeks at a time left her at the office and never returned. My friend is very ill, asked me to place some parrots for her. When I saw Ashley, I knew because of her plucked chest and back that no one would want her. Most people want birds in beautiful condition. Ashley is very old, even her wings droop. So I took her home “on trial”, and she’s bonded with me. She keeps me in stitches all day long, barks like the dogs, whistles songs, laughs like me, learns new things in a week. Does three or four bird calls and is always alert and interested. We watch African grey videos every day on Youtube.
