Cold, long winter. Damp. Foggy. Rains came, cold, like needles. They drummed on the new metal roof; came in the night. More days than not, we saw this; not sun. Woke to ice on the dogs’ waterer in the yard.
Plants succumbed, even though they were covered.
Sunshine has no warmth yet. Today was brittle-cold and sunny. Yesterday it felt like it would snow. The fig trees went unwrapped like in my grandmother’s backyard in New York. They suffered.
I should be where it snows. Then I wouldn’t be confused. This is Florida. I’m glad the heater is on.
