Sat down to wait for Mickey to chase squirrels and found these two beetles mating this morning.
I put a plastic jar over them and ran for my camera.
They were still mating. I had enough time to take this one shot before the male began withdrawal.

The female then left a drop of yellow on an oak leaf.
Beetles, I believe, deposit eggs in the ground so I don’t think it was an egg, but perhaps excess fluid from the male.

An interesting mini-episode.

    This is a great shot, and these are really beautiful beetles. At first I thought they were Scarabs, the colors are so bright. Very nice capture
