A half-grown armadillo roots for food near my rosemary plant. With nearly worthless eyes, I crept around following this young armadillo, and was able to get so close, my eyes and my camera couldn’t focus in a nose-to-nose meeting. I was also able to pet it.

These are very wild, interesting and exotic animals.

I am so please it has chosen my yard on its list of
fine dining restaurants.

It is a serious digger. They push the soil with their snouts until the eyes, which are small are covered. Then the ears, which are constantly alert, take over. I went out barefoot, then got on my hands and knees and followed. It got so close to me that I couldn’t focus my eyes, nor could the camera. When it finds food the whole head moves so rapidly that even the flash can’t stop it.
