Polka-dotted Wasp Moth by May Lattanzio

Bayou George, FL. My yard.

This magnificent creature is harmless, even though the colors say “Stay Away”.
Its host plant is the oleander, and is also called the Oleander Moth.

In the last few years, I’ve not seen any.

They love nectaring in goldenrod and if you are fortunate, the colors are nothing but thrilling, but Bidens alba (Spanish Needles), the plant it is shown on, is a favorite as well.

So I assume “mother Nature” has designed this moth to mimick a wasp? Great shot!

The first time I saw them I was really worried. Didn’t want to get stung. They are black in the shade but very iridescent.

They LOVE goldenrod. Seem to be attracted to yellow and gold. Thank you all.
